This is an easy and very versatile recipe. You can use this on cupcakes, cakes and cookies.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup salted butter (softened). I usually get my butter out in the morning before I even make the cake/cupcakes. Then, by the time I need it it's ready and very soft. If you're in a hurry because you forgot to soften on the counter, try the microwave on half power or less at only 20-30 second increments.
- 1/3 cup cocoa
- 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar (may need more depending)
- 3 Tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Instructions:
- Beat butter in bowl until smooth.
- Add cocoa and using mixer on low speed, blend into butter.
- At this point, I like to add the milk. I know most bakers add the powdered sugar at this point, but when I do that it just makes such a mess with all the dry ingredients. So, I would add the milk and mix again. This will be very liquid.
- Add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time and mix until combined.
- At this point, if you want the frosting thicker add more sugar. If you want it thinner, add more milk.
- Using your favorite spreader or frosting tip, frost your baked good!
