DIY Christmas planter decoration

Well, it's that time of year!! Christmas, one of my favorite holidays. I love to decorate for Christmas.

I believe that Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus, celebrating the hope of His coming and focusing on my relationship with him! The extra "stuff" that society has added throughout the years is all great fun, but not the point!

So, I definitely decorate for Christmas. I don't like decorating much for other seasons, but this is the one holiday that we actually have tubs in storage of decorations.

Well, last year I got into a wreath kick! I was making them often even if I didn't have room for them. This past year, we splurged on one of those big planters to put near our front door. I decided I wanted to do some sort of Christmas decoration. We've been busy and I haven't taken the time to get to a craft store. The other day, I decided to go. But, my daughter didn't want to go and I decided rather than arguing with her, I would use what I had around the house.

I wanted to do one of those birchwood looking decorations with the berries, pine cones and ribbons. This is an example:

I had tons of ribbon from previous crafts, but didn't have the birchwood or berries. So, I started looking in our wood pile for something that resembled birchwood. I got pretty lucky!

Next, I took the trimmings from our Christmas tree and started putting them in. I didn't have as many as I wanted, but used what I had.

Finally, I started to add some pine cone decorations I had leftover from other projects and also ribbons and bows.

The ribbon mostly came from a Dollar Store. I LOVE LOVE LOVE going to Dollar Store for crafts. When I'm experimenting, I like spending less money until I know if it's what I really want!

I still want to add berries if I can ever get to the craft store. That would just be perfect!

Here's the final result. I'm pretty proud of myself.

So, if you're feeling crafty, just start using what you have! Add what you like, take other things back out if you don't like them and just let the creative juices flow!

HAPPY CRAFTING!
